East High Golf - Monday, August 29, 2022

The East High Girls golf squad traveled to Sierra Hills Golf Club yesterday to compete in their first GWAL match of the season.  This match was originally scheduled for September 6, but due to a conflict at the course, it got moved up eight days.  Another week of practice would’ve been nice, but overall, our girls did a nice job.

We have seven girls on the golf team this year, and three of them just joined the team late last week, so we only had four Blue Aces competing yesterday.  Jillian Hutchinson and Natalie Schafer are our two returning team members, and they played 18 holes for the varsity squad.  Beija Cousens and Violet Rice, who are playing golf for the first time, played 9 holes in the JV division.  Here is how they did:

  • Jillian Hutchinson – 81 – T13th (among the girls from public schools, this was the second-best scored posted yesterday!)
  • Natalie Schafer – 107 – 27th (we thought Natalie turned in a lower score, so we are checking on this)
  • Beija Cousens – 60 – 14th (also the second-best public school score in the JV division!)
  • Violet Rice – 76 – T25th

I was proud of all the girls for how they did in the first match of the year, especially considering we haven’t had a lot of time to practice, AND that for some of them, this was their first-ever golf tournament.  Luckily, our next competition is two weeks from now, and two more weeks of practice will not be a bad thing ðŸ˜Š.

In case you are curious, click here for complete varsity results (JV results are unavailable).  The par at Sierra Hills is 58.  So yes, you are reading that correctly: Meg Tilma of Kapaun really DID shoot 9-under.  Unbelievable.
