East High Golf - Monday, September 12, 2022

On Monday the girls golf team played a nine-hole GWAL event at Auburn Hills Golf Course.  For those of you not “in the know”, Auburn Hills is easily the most difficult public course in the area.  There is lots of tall rough and water and trees and sand.  Or, as the Northwest golf coach, Geoff Martens, accurately stated, “the hazards are Auburn Hills are very hazardous”.  It is a difficult test for even the most experienced golfers, and unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of experienced golfers ðŸ˜Š.

Despite being aware of the challenge that was ahead of us, I was proud of how our girls performed, and their attitudes throughout the round.  We had six girls play on Monday: two (Faith Mantzke & Mackenzie Wright) played in their first golf tournament ever, and based on my observations, they had a ball; two (Violet Rice & Beija Cousens) played in their second golf tournament ever, and Violet hit the last shot of the tournament as darkness was setting in (this fact does not matter in the grand scheme of things, but for some reason I thought it was neat).  And our two most experienced golfers (Jillian Hutchinson & Natalie Schafer) were playing Auburn for the first time.  So, despite the difficulty of the course, and our inexperience, overall it was a good day for the Bule Aces.

 Varsity Results

  • Natalie Schafer – 72, T20th place
  • Beija Cousens – 81, T26th
  • Jillian Hutchinson – Withdrew due to illness

 JV Results

  • Faith Mantzke – 65, 18th
  • Mackenzie Wright – 69, 20th
  • Violet Rice – 74, 29th

And in case you are wondering, the top varsity scores were shot by Keira Ronsick of Bishop Carroll, and Alexa Garrett of Kapaun.  They both shot a 36, which is even par.  Un.  Real.  For complete varsity results, click here, and for complete JV results, click here.
